Mildred grows her coffee trees under the shade of the trees on the Campo Alegre family farm. The diversity of trees here is such that you’d forget you were on a plantation. Everything is done to respect the nature of the site. The processes used require limited water, waste is reused as fertiliser, and the land and forest are respected in their entirety. Nature and man live in perfect harmony.
Mildred’s life story has been marked by a desire to improve and teach what she knows to other small-scale producers. Her farm has been a source of inspiration for research and innovation to improve the quality of the speciality coffee she produces. Mildred is not only a coffee producer, but also a Q-Grader, a roaster and the Chief Quality Control Officer of the Red Ecolsierra cooperative.
The Red Ecolsierra cooperative has 3 objectives :
1) Reviving the Colombian community after the devastating civil war that raged for decades in Colombia. The cooperative was awarded the “Emprender Paz” prize in 2017 for this effort.
2) To regenerate the biosphere of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, classified by UNESCO as the highest coastal mountain in the world and an irreplaceable protected area.
3) Innovate to improve the quality of speciality coffee.
As you can see, Mildred is our favourite, and so is her coffee.
